Little Shedders
Spring Camp 2026: The US That Grows
Full-Day
Program Overview

A hands-on, multi-day exploration of ecosystems, soil, and forest habitats designed for curious 5–8 year olds. Through close observation, guided inquiry, and practical outdoor work, children learn how trees, soil, insects, and humans all play a role in shaping living environments.

Using farms and forests as living classrooms, children study tree homes, investigate soil health, explore how nature changes over time, and examine how human actions can help or harm natural spaces. Each day builds their understanding of how ecosystems grow — and how their actions matter within them.

The experience culminates in the creation of a Tree Tag Showcase, where children bring together their learning to identify a tree’s parts, describe its habitat, and explain how both nature and people influence its growth — a tangible reflection of their growing awareness and responsibility.

    • Develop a deeper understanding of ecosystems by exploring how soil, trees, habitats, and environmental conditions shape plant growth.

    • Strengthen observation and inquiry skills through close study of trees and forest environments.

    • Understand how natural processes and human actions influence plant habitats over time.

    • Build responsibility through hands-on soil care, planting, and conservation activities.

Schedule

Week 1

30 March - 1 April, 2026

Schedule

  • Location:
    Shek O

    Key Activities:
On Day 1, children explore how trees and plants live within their environments and what they need to grow and thrive.

At Shek O, they choose a tree to study — observing its leaves, bark, roots, and surrounding soil — and record their findings through drawings and a small group worksheet.

They also make “worm tea” using worm castings to fertilise garden plants, learning firsthand how healthy soil and natural nutrients support plant growth.

    Drop Off:

    8:30AM
    📍Hong Kong Central Post Office
    NB:
Bus will depart at 8:45AM. Latecomers will not be accommodated.

    Key Activities:
On Day 2, children explore how both nature and humans shape the places where trees live.

Children revisit their chosen tree as “tree detectives,” observing signs of natural change and human impact. Through guided discussion and a group activity, they assess soil health and identify what helps or harms the ecosystem — learning how everyday actions influence the health of a forest.

  • Location:
    Aberdeen

    Key Activities:
On the final day, children consolidate their learning by comparing how different environments influence the way trees grow.

They visit a second forest area to compare soil, light, space, and surrounding plant life with their original tree site. Through guided observation and discussion, they deepen their understanding of how habitat conditions — and human influence — shape growth in different ecosystems.

Showcase Activity, Tree Tags – Discovering a Tree’s Home
To conclude the program, children create a “Tree Tag” that captures their learning — identifying their tree’s parts, describing its environment, and explaining how both natural processes and human actions affect its growth. This final activity brings together their observations and inquiry into a meaningful reflection of how living systems thrive.
