Our Programs

At The Shed, we believe that children learn best by doing. We use hands-on learning experiences and inquiry-based learning to teach empathy, confidence, creativity, curiosity, problem-solving, and resiliency. Our experiences provide relevant opportunities for questioning, reflection, evaluation, and conversation. Our programs offer a small, supportive and engaging environment for children to get outside and deepen their connection to themselves, the community, and to our planet.

We participate in 5 different categories of activities: Outdoor Health, Cooking/Farming & Growing, Community & Social Action, Building/Crafting & Creating, and Creative Movement. Our activities take place at various outdoor locations around HK as well as at our indoor space, "Home Base", located in Sai Ying Pun.

We offer 4 different types of programs:

Private Sessions | Saturday Sessions | Holiday Sessions | Boxing Sessions

Our half day programs run for 3 hours and full day program for 6 hours, featuring different outdoor locations around Hong Kong. Each session engages in a different activity or theme, but the format will stay the same - starting and ending with a community circle.

Multi-day programs may include an indoor session at our “Home Base” located in Sai Ying Pun.

Our programs are for ages 3 to 11 years old.

Example of What a Saturday Session Looks Like - Indoor

  • Community Circle

Each session begins and ends with a Community Circle. Adventurers get the opportunity to share and practice listening. The focus of each session is discussed during this time

  • Outdoor Activity

In each session, we venture out to our neighborhood here in Sai Ying Pun. We explore different parks in the area through activities that relate back to the theme of the program.

  • Snack

Adventurers have a Snack, which is always held back at Home Base at our Community table.

  • Home Base Activity

After snack, adventurers are engaged in a variety of hands-on projects that allows them to explore the theme of the program. This is when most of the building, cooking, and planting is completed.

  • Closing Community Circle

At the end of every session, we meet again in a Community Circle. We look at our celebrations, challenges, and take the time to reflect on the activities that were done during the session. This is also the time to share gratitude for one another before saying goodbye.

Holiday Session

Our Holiday Programs provide a learning environment of group sizes of up to 18 children. These programs run for 3.5 hour blocks for 5 consecutive days. The themes and activities will vary based on the season, but will still revolve around our 5 core activities. AM and PM sessions are offered. Locations will alternate between our indoor space, Home Base, and at various outdoor locations around Hong Kong.

What a Holiday Program at The Shed Looks Like

  • Monday

Every Monday, adventurers get to know each other and Home Base. They are introduced to The Shed Agreements and how to conduct themselves in our space. “Me” is the main topic of reflection. At Home Base, is where most of the building, cooking, and planting is completed. We also take the chance to venture out into our neighbourhood to prepare us for the week ahead.

  • Tuesday

We continue to get to know who we are spending our time with this week. Tuesday’s meeting point will be outdoors. We learn to connect with nature and get comfortable in our new environment. After our day of exploration, reflections on personal challenges and celebrations are made.

  • Wednesday

Adventurers meet at another outdoor location on Wednesday to participate in more advanced activities. They may gather and forage for items needed for our indoor activities on this trip. Discussions are focused on the concept of “We” and teamwork. We focus on how the impact we have on our community and ourselves.

  • Thursday

Another new outdoor location to meet at and more opportunities to get out of our comfort zones. Adventurers will get to reflect on the week’s activities and celebrate the moments of learning they had with the community at The Shed.

  • Friday

We finish the week off at Home Base. Adventurers will go out into the Sai Ying Pun community, have snack, and put together the remaining pieces of the project we worked on through out the week. Families are invited to Home Base to join our Celebration of Learning presentation from the week.
